Bollywood Megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s decision to become brand ambassador for Gujarat Tourism has not gone down well with the Congress, the party he had once represented from Allahabad as a Lok Sabha MP.
"Big B should not misuse his celebrity status and become the brand ambassador for the vested interests,” said Rajeev Shukla, AICC secretary and coordinator for Gujarat, adding that State Governments were not corporate entities that required a brand ambassador for image improvement.
“Celebrities should shy away from it, as it gives a poor impression,” Shukla said, recalling that Bachchan had earlier been a brand ambassador for Uttar Pradesh which had “bought electoral disaster” for the state’s the then ruling Samajwadi Party. “Only time will tell what will happen to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.”
AICC secretary in-charge of Gujarat P Sudhakar Reddy said the move was nothing more than an attempt to cash in on the goodwill of the actor.
After having a special screening of his film Paa for Modi last month, both the CM and Amitabh emerged great fans of each other. While Bachchan accepted Modi’s invitation to work as the “brand ambassador of Gujarat”, the state exempted the film from entertainment and other taxes.

Bollywood Megastar Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek Bachchan were honored with the Best Jodi Award for their chemistry in "Paa" at the STAR Screen Awards.
Amitabh played Abhishek son who suffers from progeria, a disease that accelerates the ageing process. The father son duo also entertained the audiences at the event Saturday by doing the Auro dance at the behest of their hosts Shahrukh Khan and Shahid Kapoor.
After Shah Rukh's repeated request, Big B and Abhishek danced on the "Paa" number and Shahid and Shahrukh too tried to match steps with them.
In all, "Paa" won five awards including best actor award for Amitabh, best actor female for Hot Vidya Balan, best child actor for Pratik and best supporting actor female for Arundhati.
India's Bachchan reverts to childhood in unusual film.
An unusual Indian film that casts 68-year-old Bollywood Legend Superstar Amitabh Bachchan as a 13-year-old school boy, with his own son playing the lead, has the world's most prolific film industry buzzing.In "Paa," Bachchan plays Auro, a teenager afflicted with Progeria, a rare genetic condition that causes a person to age faster than normal.
And, in an ironic twist, the role of Auro's father is being played by Bachchan's actor son, Abhishek."The director of the film came up with the idea that he wanted me to play my father's father and we set about looking for a plausible reason to do that.
That is when we came upon Progeria," Abhishek Bachchan told Reuters.
"Paa" opens in more than 700 cinemas in 20 countries on Friday.Posters for the film, made on a budget of around $3 million, show an almost unrecognizable Amitabh Bachchan, with a large bald head, bulging eyes, and buck teeth, wearing a school uniform.The film, however, focuses on the relationship between father and son, and doesn't "talk about the tragic life of a Progeria victim," Abhishek said.Bachchan's role and heavy make-up, which took five hours to apply, is uncommon in Bollywood, which generally puts out films that revolve round love stories and trademark song-and-dance sequences, or more commonplace social or political themes.
"The makeup was the toughest part, but I don't want anyone to think that this is a film about Progeria. This is a father-son story at its heart,"Director R. Balakrishnan said.
Bachchan, one of India's most well-known and respected actors, said he was intrigued by the fact that he would play his own son's son, but Abhishek said he deliberately distanced himself from that real-life relationship."We are actors and we know that when the camera is rolling, all relationships go out of the window. As an actor I can't be thinking, "oh, he is my father, and I am playing his father.' That just messes with your head," he said.
Amitabh Bachchan, Priyardarshan join hands with Toonz.Bollywood Star Big B, ace director Priyadarshan and animation major Toonz Animation have joined hands to prepare a Rs 20 crore 3D animation film titled Twinergy.
Addressing reporters on the eve of Technopark-based Toonz celebrating its first decade of operations, its CEO P Jayakumar said that the pre-production work is over and the production of the film has commenced.
"This is a 90-minute 3D animation film in English. Bachchan cleared this story after hearing seven ideas from us. We had a three-hour discussion with him in Hyderabad where he was assisted by Abhishek and Aishwaraya.
At the end of it, he zeroed in on three and finally gave the nod for Twinergy ," said Jayakumar.The film tells the tale of a royal family, united by love and divided by misunderstanding and how they adopt two twins into their fold.
The funds for this mega project have been arranged by Toonz and Priyadarshan is expected to spend a week here in the Toonz studio and would again join the team when the post-production work begins."The post-production part will happen in Mumbai because Bachchan is particular about the quality of post-production.
The film would be released hopefully by Diwali next year," said Jayakumar.Toonz Animation has emerged as the preferred one-stop studio for entertainment majors and its client list includes Walt Disney, Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures Corporation, Hallmark Entertainment Productions, Lionsgate Entertainment, Cartoon Network, BBC, Sony Entertainment and Marvel Characters.Elaborating on their initial years, Jayakumar said that the initial years were tough and they lost a lot of money.
"But now things have changed and our pipeline is full for the next three years. Now we are in a position to select what we wish to do and we have now started to outsource work to Korea, the Philippines and China. We are now making money," he added.
Toonz today employs 350 professionals in the studio here with a good spread of expatriate animators.They have also set up an academy for training animators and have 11 centres in the country and their first overseas center will be opening shortly in Jordan.

All three Khans—Shahrukh, Salman, Aamir—were there.
While SRK spoke about cleanliness, infrastructure and the economy, and Salman voted for “prosperity,” Aamir wanted, “a leader who does not rule on the basis of caste or creed.”

Justifying the shoots, Vithal Rathod of Film City said that permissions to shoot on Tuesday were granted a long time ago. “But offices were closed,” Rathod said.
Dinesh Chaturvedi, general secretary of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees was in no mood for excuses.“If the government forced hotels, malls and multiplexes to shut down, how were they okay with this?” he asked.
