Fans celebrate Rajnikanth's 60th birthday in Chennai.

Enthusiastic fans of Tamil superstar Rajnikanth lined up a slew of activities to celebrate the 60th birthday of the actor in Chennai on Saturday.

Fans offered special prayers in temples for Rajnikanth's long life and some even visited his residence and offered prasadam.

However, Rajnikanth, who has acted in some 200 movies in nine languages till date, was reportedly busy shooting for his upcoming film 'Enthiran', opposite Bollywood Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

"He (Rajnikanth) is the greatest citizen of India and the golden son of Tamil Nadu. We are celebrating our superstar's 60th birthday. We wish him long life on behalf of people of Tamil Nadu," said Veldurai, a fan.

The 60-year-old actor stepped into the film world in 1975 with a debut in Kannada film Katha Sangama directed by Puttanna Kanagal.

Since then it has been a long journey for Rajnikanth having acted in 173 movies so far, including Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi and Bengali films. He had his own share of big hits that include 'Murattukaalai', 'Pokkiri Raja', 'Thanikattu Raja', 'Naan Mahaan Alla' and 'Moondru Mugam' to name a few.

Rajinikanth also made a foray into Bollywood with Andha Kanoon, but couldn't make that much impact as he had in the south. Yet he continued to act in Hindi films. 'Chaalbaaz' with Sridevi, 'Uttar Dakshin', 'Girafthar' and 'Hum' are some of his popular Hindi movies. He also had a brief stint in Hollywood with the 'Bloodstone' in 1988.

The Tamil roaring success 'Sivaji the Boss' in 2007 epitomized his film career. In fact it had become the first Tamil movie to make it to the UK and South Africa's Top 10 film list.

Thanks to his rakish looks and jeering dialogue delivery, the actor was christened 'Style King" by his over one million fans nearly 30 years ago.

In the season for ostentatious Bollywood weddings the only talk around showbiz right now is who is spending how much on what.

It is estimated that the Shilpa Shetty Raj Kundra affair will reportedly cost the Kundra something to the tune of Rs 5 crore, with the bride’s jewellery alone being valued at Rs 3 crore.

But the mother of all B-town weddings this season is the wedding of Pankti Mehta, the marketing head of Ashtavinayak Cine Vision, where the budget will reportedly surpass the Kundra. Soft-spoken Pankti is the sister of filmmaker Dhillin Mehta who produced Jab We Met and Blue, and she is marrying a US citizen, Jimeet Sanghavi.

Shilpa Shetty, Bollywood Gorgeous Bold Hot Babe who tied the nuptial knot with London-based Businessman Raj Kundra, hosted a reception party at a five star hotel for her colleagues from tinsel town, but snubbed Bollywood Khiladi Akshay Kumar by not inviting him.

In fact, Shilpa Shetty had ensured that almost all the biggies of Bollywood Legends Stars — Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh KhanGauri Khan, Hrithik Roshan wife Susanne Roshan, Rekha, Jaya Prada, Karan Johar, Rani Mukerjee, Kangna Ranaut, Vivek Oberoi, Govinda, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Amisha Patel, Sameera Reddy etc—were present on the occasion.

These big names not only attended the reception at a suburban hot spot, but also enjoyed the rocking party. While Bollywood Hot Bold Gorgeous Shilpa Shetty looked rocking in a Tarun Tahiliani creation, her husband Raj Kundra was no less in the sherwani that he chose for the occasion.

However, the highlight of the rocking night was certainly the eighty kg wedding cake which had been especially prepared by Shetty sisters for the occasion. The cake looked huge with its nine tiers, which mainly consisted of chocolates, nuts, fruits etc. The guests were also treated with choicest dishes from Italian, Chinese, Thais and Indian variety.

Another highpoint of the evening was the foot-tapping music provided by Rishi Rich and RDB of UK. The guests were seen excited and shaking a leg on the occasion. Sources say that these famous singers were close friends of Raj Kundra and hence did not charge a penny for the performance at the reception.

However, the industry watchers are amazed at the non-inclusion of Akshay Kumar from the guest list, as Shilpa Shetty had already mended her ways with him and he had even attended the grand finale of ‘Bigg Boss 2’ on the request of his ex. In fact, the impression was that they had moved on in their respective lives and did not nurse any grudges against each other.

Sources say that Shilpa Shetty had indeed moved on but her husband Raj Kundra was dead against Akshay Kumar coming to attend the function. The insiders reveal that Raj Kundra’s dislike of Akshay Kumar comes from the fact of a British tabloid publishing some intimate details about Shilpa and Akshay, when she had won Celebrity Big Brother in year 2007.

The buzz doing the rounds in the industry is that as Raj Kundra lives in the UK, he did not want to give any Masala to tabloids of that country about Shilpa Shetty (who has now become his wife) through the presence of Akshay Kumar, and hence had disapproved of the proposal to invite Akki.

It may be recalled that Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty were a couple in Bollywood and had even featured in super hit films like ‘Dhadkan’. However, the relationship did not work out and Akki married Twinkle Khanna, leaving Shilpa in the lurch.
